The recent Facebook and Instagram “blackout” of 2019 had us all running back to Twitter for our social media addiction needs. Twitter is useful for quick updates, short bits of information, and links to important things.
This social platform is an important tool and a useful resource for staying up to date on topics you’re interested in. Twitter is used as a daily newsfeed for topics and interests that only matter to you and you can customize your news feed however you desire.
Although it’s no longer the most popular social media platform to use in 2019, here are a few useful tips for making the most of your Twitter account in 2019:
- Always mention or hashtag in your tweets. Many business accounts are viewed as more personable on Twitter. When someone mentions your account in a tweet, you can easily “like” the tweet, which gives the tweeter recognition on your page as well as showing activity where you’re mentioned on your profile. It’s a simple concept, but it’s great to see large Twitter accounts interacting with customers like that.
- Follow other accounts similar to yours. This is mainly for business accounts. Following accounts like yours and even your competitors is actually a good thing and helps improve the interests and topics you’ll see in your Twitter feed.
- Share articles and industry-related updates often, but not too much. You also want to include more personable things in your Twitter feed. This is the beauty of re-tweeting other posts and adding them into your feed.
- Retweet often, but appropriately. Remember that retweeting a post will show up on your profile, so make sure it’s appropriate to your account and it’s something you want your followers to see.
- Heart tweets similar to what you post. The difference between retweeting and hearting a tweet is huge. A RT will appear on your page, a hearted tweet will show up on your activity and in other’s home pages if they are following the same accounts. Hearting tweets is useful for smaller, more off-topic, yet interesting tweets. Or, for situations like we said earlier, when a customer mentions you in a tweet.
- Update your location. This will add topics and news near you and in your area into your homepage and trending topics.
- Follow trending hashtags that are within your topic/interests. For example: if you like tweeting and RTs about #mondaymotivation on Monday mornings, follow this hashtag along with similar ones. #mondaymorning, #mondaycoffee, #herecomesmonday…etc.
- RT and Tweet about important and trending topics. Stay in the conversation and jump in on what everyone is talking about.
- Use Twitter daily. This is the best way to gain followers and stay proactive on social media without over-doing it.
