Social Media Marketing VS SEO
Social Media Marketing and Search Engine Optimization both go hand-in-hand for engagement and website traffic. Generating sales, attracting organic traffic, collecting subscribers, and gaining loyal customers are all factors that result from SMM and SEO efforts.
“…61% of consumers actually use search engines to help them do product research before deciding to purchase. At the same time, 75% of people between ages of 18 – 26 rely on recommendations from their peers on social media to influence their purchases” (60 Second Marketer, 2018). Although they go hand-in-hand and should be used together, there are a few differences you should know.
Here are some of the key differences between Social Media Marketing and Search Engine Optimization:
- Content – SEO focuses on longer text and text based content while Social Media is mostly picture, graphic, and video based content.
- Conversions – SEO lead customers are more likely to convert immediately because they searched for the specific topic rather than going through Social Media and being lead to the product through fans, shares, and likes about the product.
- Time – SEO content is long lasting and remains available until it is taken down or the site no longer exists. Social media is often short bursts of content, trends, and fan-based interactions. Social media content will still be available to see from a timeline perspective, but there is always going to be a newer piece of content posted.
- Mediums – SEO generated users are typically on a desktop and typing VS Social Media users who are using mobile devices.
- Share-based VS Research-based – SEO users are directed to a site based on the research they conduct. Social media users see what is posted based on what they share, like, follow, and interact with on that specific channel.
- Rankings – SEO rankings are based on how many times a site is clicked and viewed, how long it was viewed, relatability to the search, and how much interaction it gained from the consumer. Social media rankings are based on the algorithm and the amount of interaction and engagement gained from followers on a certain platform.
Marketing is all about engagement, interaction, and direction. Using SEO efforts and Social Media marketing efforts together is going to result in nothing but positive outcomes from a marketing standpoint.
Happy Marketing!
