Is your content up to engagement standards?

Your competitors are posting super engaging content daily and getting tons of likes, comments, and engagement on what seems to be their normal type of posts. Why is this?

Here are a few reasons why their content engagement is stacking up compared to yours!

What do their captions look like? Ask these questions: how long is their caption… is it engaging… are they asking questions and using hashtags… are they using emojis and tagging others…? If you answered YES to any or all of these, pay attention to this. These captions are creating engagement rates through the roof. Instagram now has a new feature where it only shows the first line of text when scrolling through the feed, so make that first line attention-grabbing for content engagement!

Are they utilizing their Instagram bio space? And by this, we mean are they using a hashtag (preferably their branded hashtag), displaying their URL, and describing what they do in a few words and emojis…? Check out their bio to see how they are using it to up their game.

Are they utilizing any white space in their captions by adding relative emojis? Relative emojis are important to add into a caption. They add personality, depth, and a little fun.

Do they have a running theme on their instagram profile? It’s common for businesses to have a theme on their profile. It is visible from looking at the first 3 rows on their profile. This is known as the Top 9. In personal Instagram profiles, most influencers will refer to their theme as an “aesthetic” profile.

How many hashtags are they using? Instagram allows up to 30 hashtags per post, use that space wisely! Find the most relevant and engaging hashtags for your business and for your post. Add 3-5 hashtags in your actual caption at the end, including your branded hashtag. In the comments, add 5-6 periods to create a hidden comment containing the remaining space for 24-25 hashtags.

See example below:

How often are they posting stories or going live on Instagram/Facebook? One of the biggest and most engaging forms of content is live video. Whether it’s on Instagram, Facebook, or LinkedIn for B2B, live video is a huge way to increase content engagement fast. It can be a little uncomfortable to go on camera at first, but you’ll get the hang of it!

How are they responding to any negative commentary? Pay attention to how your competitors are responding to any negative comments they see on social media. It’s important to address the problem right away and handle it respectfully.

We hope this is helpful to our fellow marketers!
